Speaking to Angop, the provincial official for quality control of the National Intersectorial Commission for Demining and Humanitarian Assistance (CNIDAH), Marcial Kativa, stressed that the divestment in this process conditioned the purchase of equipment and the training of new agents, including sappers.
For the current year, Marcial Kativa said he expects investments to be made in order to extend the process to areas identified as affected by mines and other unexploded ordnance.
Brazzaville, 5 February 2020 - While, there are no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus reported in the African region, the World Health Organization (WHO) is strengthening its support to countries in the detection and management of suspect cases and in ensuring a robust response, should a first case be detected.
Brazzaville, 31 January 2020 – The World Health Organization (WHO) is scaling up novel coronavirus preparedness efforts in the African region and supporting countries to implement recommendations outlined by the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee, which met in Geneva, Switzerland on 30 January. On the advice of the Emergency Committee, the WHO Director-General, declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).

The effects of climate change are apparent if the consequences of successive debilitating droughts in the entire southern Africa and beyond in recent years are anything to go by. This vicious climatic cycle is any farmer, policymaker, investor and the general public’s worst nightmare, more so in Namibia an arid country renowned for its successive droughts and very hot and dry conditions.

LONDON, Jan 30 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Young girls in southern Africa are selling sex - sometimes for less than the cost of bread - to survive a hunger crisis ensnaring tens of millions, aid agencies said on Thursday.

ATLANTA — A provisional total of 53 cases of Guinea worm disease were reported in 2019, The Carter Center announced Wednesday. Intensified surveillance and reporting incentives in endemic areas in recent years have produced expected fluctuations in the small number of Guinea worm cases. When The Carter Center assumed leadership of the program in 1986, about 3.5 million human cases occurred annually in 21 countries in Africa and Asia.
World Service Regional Management Team Meeting in Cameroon
The head of the Demining Department at INAD in Bié, José Virgílio, reported that, on this first day, 11 howitzer devices were removed, eight of which were 82 mm, two were 60 mm and one was a 110 mm mortar.
The work to clear the location, according to José Virgílio, will take place over seven days. He informed that the war material was found at about 1 meter deep, in an area that during the armed conflict was a trench, and it is expected that by the end of the work, other devices will be found.
The GPEI Polio Partners Group convened the eighth annual technical workshop on 6 December 2019 where a global overview of the status of poliovirus detection was presented among other polio updates. The meeting presentations are now available here.
