Beira - Angolan humanitarian aid mission in Mozambique has announced it started with the rehabilitation works of Dondo health center damaged by the cyclone Idai that hit that country on March 14.

The works are set to last fifteen days and consist of recovery of the roof, wall painting and refitting the health facility to meet the patients needs.

Luanda - The two Angolan helicopters, that arrived in Beira, Mozambique, on Tuesday to support the work of the humanitarian mission, will be used to transport food, medicine and other equipment.

Speaking to the press, the head of the Angolan humanitarian aid mission to the victims of Cyclone Idai, Sabino Dunguionga, said that the decision to use these air resources resulted from a meeting between local authorities and international partners in Beira.

The two aircraft have the capacity to carry up to 2,650 kilograms of weight.

Luanda - Two helicopters from Angola flying troops specialised in search and rescuing operations in difficult access areas reached Monday Maputo, Mozambique, Angola’s Health Minister Sílvia Lutucuta confirmed Monday.

The Minister also announced the arrival in Mozambique – hit by powerful tropical storm – of a fourth plane with 52 tons of goods (medicines and expendable supplies), two ambulances and four 4-wheel drive vehicles to ensure the mobility of the teams.

Beira - Angola’s assistance made up of 26 tons of food and medicines to Tropical Cyclone Idai victims in Mozambique will help prevent the spread of the epidemics in the Indian Ocean country, the Health minister of Mozambique Nazira Abdula said Friday in Beira city.

Nazira Abdula was speaking to the press shortly after the delivery ceremony of the goods and the introduction of medical and military teams from Angola.

Menongue – At least 46 former Angolan refugees in Zambia Wednesday returned back to the country, from Kuando Kubango province, under the Programme of the Organized Voluntary Repatriation.

For the time they are accommodated in Menongue, the capital city of Kuando Kubango province.

The provincial department chief of the Angolan Social Welfare Ministry, Sungo Matomona, told ANGOP that this is the second group coming from Zambia joining other 43 citizens who came first.

Luanda, 10/02 - Southern African Development Community (SADC) Executive Secretary, Prega Ramsamy, Wednesday said that one of the organisation's top priorities is to provide aid to 14 million people in the region to avoid a humanitarian crisis.

Prega Ramsamy, who said so when addressing the opening session of SADC Summit of Heads of State and of government, stated that this regional body has been mobilizing support from the international community to provide food aid.
