UNHCR voluntarily repatriated 1,439 Central African refugees so far, since the start of the operation on 21 November. UNHCR will repatriate close to 4,000 refugees to the Central African Republic’s capital Bangui, and prefectures that were assessed as safe.

UNHCR conducted a large-scale verification exercise of 25,691 South Sudanese refugees in two settlements in Haut-Uele Province, and subsequently printed 12,705 individual identity cards and 7,710 attestations of family composition for refugees.

Cette population est composée de 37% de Congolais (RDC), 23% de Tchadiens, 30% de Sud Soudanais, 5% de Soudanais et 4% des autres nationalités. Elle est composée à 51 % de femmes et 49% d'hommes. Les enfants représentent 59% contre 38% d'adultes et 3% de personnes âgées. 45% des réfugiés sont dans la Préfecture du Haut Mbomou, 19% dans BaminguiBangoran, 33% à Bangui et 3% dans la Ouaka.

As of 31 October 2019, 890,044 Congolese refugees are being hosted in African countries. From 1 January to 31 October 2019 alone, some 84,221 Congolese fled to neighboring countries, with a particularly significant increase in refugee flows to Uganda.

UNHCR together with 63 humanitarian and development partners launched the revised 2019-2020 Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRRP) on 30 June 2019 to help respond to the needs of Congolese refugees in Africa.

The lean season has begun in Southern Africa, with nearly 12 million people severely food insecure, many unable to access clean water, and girls and women reportedly forced to resort to negative coping strategies, including early marriage, transactional sex and trafficking. At least 12 districts are projected to face ‘Emergency’ food insecurity (IPC Phase 4) (3 in Zambia and 9 in Zimbabwe), along with more than 60 per cent (14 out of 23) of communes assessed in three provinces (Cuando Cubango, Huila and Cunene) of southern Angola.
