Heavy rainfall triggers flooding in parts of Central and East Africa

  1. Heavy rainfall was reported in northern Ghana and bordering areas of Burkina Faso.

  2. The Ubangui River has triggered flooding along the river basin into northern and western Democratic Republic of Congo last week.

  3. Flooding will continue this week due to saturated ground conditions and continued rainfall in the Afar region of Ethiopia, eastern South Sudan, and the border of Ethiopia and Sudan.

As of 31 August 2019, 886,881 Congolese refugees and asylum seekers are being hosted in several African countries. From 1 January to 31 August 2019 alone, some 61,652 Congolese fled to neighboring countries, with a particularly significant increase in the flows to Uganda.

  1. Heavy rainfall was reported in northern Ghana and bordering areas of Burkina Faso.

  2. The Logone River in northern Cameroon has flooded and continued rain expected next week is likely to maintain high water levels.

  3. Northern South Sudan has reported flooding from high river levels accumulating from parts of Sudan and Ethiopia.

Cette population est composée de 37% de Congolais (RDC), 23% de Tchadiens, 30% de Sud Soudanais, 5% de Soudanais et 4% des autres nationalités. Elle est composée à 51 % de femmes et 49% d'hommes. Les enfants représentent 59% contre 38% d'adultes et 3% de personnes âgées. 45% des réfugiés sont dans la Préfecture du Haut Mbomou, 19% dans BaminguiBangoran, 33% à Bangui et 3% dans la Ouaka.
