SYNTHESE ET RECOMMANDATIONS
Both Guatemala and Myanmar were affected by earthquakes during the reporting period. On 7 November, an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude struck the pacific coast of Guatemala, affecting more than 600,000 people followed by a second quake of 6.2 magnitude on 11 November. There were no immediate reports of major infrastructural damage caused by the second earthquake. The 6.8 magnitude earthquake which struck in Myanmar on 10 November, meanwhile, damaged infrastructure but the full extent of the impact remains unclear.
Content Overview of reported outbreaks in the WHO African Region Based on data received from the Early Warning System through the Event Management System (EMS)*, 56 public health events were reported to the Regional Office covering the period January - August 2012 of which 89% were due to infectious diseases.

Between 01 January and 22 August 2012, a cumula-tive total of 55 185 cases and 1 187 deaths were re-ported from 21 countries ( CFR: 2.2%). The Democrat-ic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Ghana, Niger and Guinea accounted for 92% of the total num-ber of cases and 88% of the total number of deaths (Table 1, Figures 1 and 2).
This document reports the findings of a UNICEF/UNESCO Mapping of Global DRR Integration into Education Curricula consultancy. The researchers were tasked with capturing key national experiences in the integration of disaster risk reduction in the curriculum, identifying good practice, noting issues addressed and ones still lacking and reviewing learning outcomes.
The methodology employed has been one of meta-research of available literature and case study documentary research into the experiences of thirty countries.
