Eastern Africa host to 8.52 million displaced people
As of October 2012, there were 8,515,310 people displaced in Burundi, (eastern) DRC, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Of these, 2,041,675 are refugees and 6,473,635 are internally displaced persons (IDPs). Starting August 2012, the coverage of this report has been extended to include Sudan and South Sudan, which as of the end of September 2012 were host to an estimated 1,935,000 IDPs and 349,000 refugees.

BURUNDI: SUCCESS OF ELECTIONS CONTINGENT ON DISARMAMENT AND MILITARY DISCIPLINE
Despite numerous delays dating back since Burundi's largest rebel group the FDD entered into a peace agreement with the government in November 2003, the process of demobilization and reintegration of both former rebel groups and the national army is scheduled to begin at the end of this month.

NAIROBI, 1 October (IRIN) - Four more countries have been accepted as "core" members to the UN-African Union (AU) International Conference on the Great Lakes region, bringing the number of core countries to 11, the office of Ibrahima Fall, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to the Great Lakes, reported on Friday.
