NEW YORK, 8 March (Office for Disarmament Affairs/Department of Political Affairs) — The Central African Convention for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, their Ammunition and all Parts and Components that can be used for their Manufacture, Repair and Assembly (Kinshasa Convention) enters into force today, today.
Countries awash with weapons -- especially in poorer regions where arms-smuggling was rampant -- needed ‘real assistance’ from technical experts and civil society organizations to curb illegal commerce in small arms and light weapons, speakers stressed yesterday, as the Third Biennial Meeting to halt the illicit trade reached the halfway mark of its week-long session.

NEW YORK, 23 May (United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs) - The twenty-fifth ministerial meeting of the United Nations Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa, held 14-18 May in Sao Tomé, Sao Tomé and Principe, concluded with the adoption of the "Sao Tomé and Principe Initiative", proposed by President Fradique Bandeira Melo de Menezes.
NEW YORK, 25 August (Department for Disarmament Affairs) - The United Nations Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa will hold its 23rd Ministerial Meeting in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, from 29 August to 2 September 2005. Participants will include Ministers for Foreign Affairs, as well as other senior governmental experts from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security.
