On Monday 16 October 2017 the Council adopted the EU Annual Report on Human Rights And Democracy in the World in 2016.

2016 was a challenging year for human rights and democracy, with a shrinking space for civil society and complex humanitarian and political crises emerging. In this context, the European Union showed leadership and remained strongly committed to promote and protect human rights and democracy across the world.

Luanda and Geneva 30 April 2014 – Angola, one of the world’s most heavily mine-affected countries, is carrying out a national workshop sponsored by the European Union, to discuss the development of a national demining plan, identifying challenges and recommending solutions to these challenges.
It is doing so in order to comply with its 2018 deadline under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, or Ottawa Convention.

I'm proud to present to you LINK!, the first newsletter from the European Union Delegation to the African Union, in joint cooperation with all EU Member States representations to the AU.

The establishment of the EU Delegation to the AU last year was an important political statement by the EU: the recognition that the AU and its Commission had become a strategic partner in our relations with Africa, and that, if we wanted to be taken seriously in this partnership, we had to strengthen our presence in Addis.

Brussels, 6 September 2002 - The EU welcomes the meeting held in Luanda 26 August 2002 of the reformed Joint Commission of the Lusaka Protocol of 1994. The presence of the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Kofi Annan, underlines the importance of this step following the adoption by the UN Security Council of SCR 1433. The EU encourages all parties to continue to engage in the process that shall lead to the holding of general elections with full respect for democracy and transparency.
