On 17 March 2016, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) hosted a one-day meeting on El Niño Impacts and Priorities for Action. The event was well attended by representatives of member states, resource partners, UN agencies and NGOs, among others.

Rome and Washington, May 16: The United States Department of State and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will unveil this week in Washington, DC a new joint initiative to assist the flow of investment from international migrants to reduce rural poverty and boost food security in their home countries.

The prices of basic food commodities have increased rapidly over the past three years. In only the first quarter of 2008, wheat and maize prices increased by 130 percent and 30 percent respectively over 2007 figures. Rice prices, while rising moderately in 2006 and more so in 2007, rose 10 percent in February 2008 and a further 10 percent in March 2008. The threat to food security in developing countries increases in stride. Coordinated action by the international community, and by the United Nations in particular, is essential.

Rome, 16 April 2008 - A new project in Angola will increase incomes of rural smallholders in the provinces of Bié, Huambo and Malanje by improving agricultural productivity and revitalizing markets.
The US$49.5 million Market-oriented Smallholder Agriculture Project will be partly financed by an IFAD loan of US$8.2 million. The loan agreement was signed today at IFAD headquarters by Angola's Ambassador to Italy, Manuel Pedro Pacavira, and IFAD's President, Lennart Båge.

Rome, 14 December 2007 - IFAD's Executive Board approved more than US$236 million in loans and US$20 million in grants for projects and programmes that will help poor rural people in developing overcome poverty.
The 92nd session of the Board was held from 11 to 13 December at IFAD headquarters in Rome.
The Board also approved US$6.24 million in grants to support agricultural research and development activities in rural regions of poor countries.
