YOKOHAMA– The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a total of US$69 million in funding from the Government of Japan to provide vital food, nutrition and resilience building support in 28 countries across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Of the total contributions, US$18 million will be used to continue to support vulnerable families in Yemen where over 20 million people are struggling to meet their daily food needs.

Luanda - The Government of Japan has provided about USD 250,000 for the Kasai, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) refugee support operations in Dundo, Lunda Norte, Republic of Angola.

The funds provided enable UNICEF to continue humanitarian assistance in the areas of nutrition, water, hygiene and sanitation, as well as the promotion of good health practices, UNICEF said in a statement.

The HALO Trust has been awarded a grant of $550,000 from the Government of Japan to conduct humanitarian demining and clearance of ordnance in Angola. The grant enables HALO to employ 50 Angolan demining staff for a period of 12 months.

The grant comes from the Japan’s Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP). A signing ceremony to commemorate the grant was held in Luanda on 9 March 2017, at the official residence of the Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Angola, His Excellency Hironori Sawada.

5 August 2016 -- An outbreak of yellow fever has spread across Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), causing more than 5600 suspected cases of the deadly mosquito-borne disease.

Fortunately, providing protection against yellow fever is possible, thanks to an existing vaccine. The Ministries of Health of both Angola and DRC, with support from the World Health Organization and partners, are holding mass vaccination campaigns to safeguard at-risk communities and put a stop to the spread of the disease.
