ABU DHABI, 4th April, 2019 (WAM) -- The UAE has played a key role in supporting global and regional demining efforts, as well as in reducing the social and economic effects of mines.
Coinciding with the United Nations, UN, International Day for Mine Awareness on 4th April, the Emirates News Agency, WAM, is highlighting, in this report, the key demining initiatives organised by the UAE in various countries, as well as its efforts to help local people resume their normal lives. 2019 Theme is "United Nations Promotes SDGs – Safe Ground – Safe Home".
ABU DHABI, 3rd June, 2018 (WAM) -- The value of relief and humanitarian programmes that were implemented due to the directives of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, through the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, from 1993 to 2003, reached AED1.8 billion, which benefited 21 countries, while its developmental projects, valued at AED595.7 million benefitted Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo.
ABU DHABI, 29th March, 2018 (WAM) -- Abdullah Khalifa Al Ghafli, Director of the UAE Pakistan Assistance Programme, UAE-PAP, said that there are great attempts to control the spread of polio virus in Afghanistan, as for the first time there were no cases of polio virus in Pakistan in 2018 until now.

ABU DHABI, 29th March, 2018 (WAM) -- The Afghanistan-Pakistan Coordination Meeting on the Common WPV Reservoirs began in Abu Dhabi today. The two-day meeting will review both countries efforts in their fight against the polio virus, with the help of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and support of the UAE Pakistan Assistance Programme (UAE PAP).
The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has begun implementing the relief aid project in two areas of Kabul Province, in Afghanistan.
The move follows directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and follow up of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Chairman of the Khalifa Foundation.

UPDATES MICAD'S AID FIGURES ABU DHABI, 4th December 2015 (WAM) --- The Ministry of International Cooperation and Development (Micad) said the UAE has provided AED173 billion in foreign aid to 178 countries and geographical areas between 1971-2014.

KABUL, 28th June, 2015 (WAM) -- The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Kabul, has implemented its Iftar Project in the Afghani capital under the supervision of the Standing Committee for Humanitarian and Development Aid in Afghanistan.
The foundation will continue to provide Iftar meals for the underprivileged during the Holy Month of Ramadan to bring the number of beneficiaries to about ten thousand during the fasting month.

KABUL, 13th April, 2015 (WAM) -- The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has distributed aid relief to 2,000 underprivileged families in the Nimruz province in the southwest of Afghanistan, a region beset with scarcity of drinking water where most of the population live below the poverty line.
The aid campaign was implemented in coordination with the Humanitarian and Development Assistance Attache linked with the UAE Embassy in Kabul.
Over three days, aid items including food, blankets and household supplies were distributed to families in various areas.
Abu Dhabi, 7th April, 2015 (WAM) -- The Emirates Red Crescent's higher committee for foreign aid has allocated AED 24. 6 million for international relief operations with Iraqi Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Syrian refugees in Iraq's Kurdistan region taking the lion's share of AED 18.1 million.
NEW YORK, 9th December, 2014 (WAM) -- The Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations participated in a donors’ meeting for current and prospective contributors, chaired by Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, on Monday. The meeting was organized by the UN Department of Political Affairs (DPA), as part of its Multi-Year Appeal 2015 Update and presentation of its funding priorities.
KABUL, 15th November, 2014 (WAM) -- A recent survey conducted in Afghanistan in 2013 proved that the national food fortification programme funded through the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation and other partners, and executed by the Swiss Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), was successful in reducing the incidence of malnutrition among preschool-age children and women of reproductive age, and was particularly effective in preventing iodine deficiency disorders and brain damage through iodisationof edible salt.
KABUL,12th July, 2014 (WAM) -- The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, KF, in cooperation with the U.A.E. Embassy in Afghanistan, has distributed humanitarian relief among those affected by recent floods in a number of provinces in the north of Afghanistan.
Under the supervision of the U.A.E. Embassy, KF team distributed humanitarian aid among 5000 underprivileged families in Jowzjan and Sar-e Pol provinces from July 7 to 10.
In Jowzjan at least 1000 families were benefitted from this aid and it has created a good impact on their social lives.
KABUL: The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has launched an Iftar project which will run for the whole Holy Month of Ramadan in different Afghan provinces.
Iftar banquets are being organised by the foundation daily at mosques in Kabul, Kunduz and Nangarhar provinces in cooperation with U.A.E. Embassy in Kabul and under the oversight of the standing committee for humanitarian and development aid.
The U.A.E. Red Crescent Authority (RCA) yesterday announced that 73 wells were being dug in Afghanistan and other four were being dug in Iraq as part of the U.A.E. Water Aid campaign launched by Vice President and Prime Minister of the U.A.E. and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to provide access to fresh drinking water for five million persons around the world who suffer from shortage of potable water.
U.A.E. has offered more than Dh one billion in foreign aid between 2009-2013 to help ensure water supply in 61 countries, according to the Ministry of Development and International Co-operation (MICAD).
