Heavy rainfall has been affecting Maguindanao Province since 6 June, resulting in flooding in Datu Salibo, Sultan Sa Barongis and Datu Piang municipalities. At least 45,000 people have been displaced and an assessment of the number of affected people in Datu Piang is ongoing. The Department of Social Welfare and Development is providing emergency assistance to the affected people.

Decisions to allocate resources must strike a balance between meeting the immediate needs of crisis affected communities and supporting efforts to strengthen resilience and response preparedness to future emergencies.

Ce projet expérimental (cf. encadré) a été conçu pour favoriser l’insertion professionnelle et sociale de personnes ayant obtenu le statut de réfugiés ou la protection subsidiaire. Déployé par la Croix-Rouge française en Ile-de-France, il a montré toute sa pertinence. Aujourd’hui, un second projet ESIRAS se dessine, pour aller plus loin encore.

The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is a global norm, unanimously adopted by heads of state and government at the 2005 UN World Summit, aimed at preventing and halting Genocide, War Crimes, Ethnic Cleansing and Crimes Against Humanity. R2P stipulates that:

"Every State has the Responsibility to Protect its populations from the four mass atrocity crimes (Pillar I). "

"The wider international community has the responsibility to encourage and assist individual States in meeting that responsibility (Pillar II)."

10 May 2019, Geneva - Tropical storms, monsoon floods, conflict and violence displaced 13.4 million people across South Asia and East Asia and the Pacific last year, according to a new report from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).

The Global Report on Internal Displacement reveals that 9.6 million new displacements were recorded in East Asia and the Pacific, and 3.8 million in South Asia, an overall increase compared with 2017.

Internal displacement is a global challenge, but it is also heavily concentrated in a few countries and triggered by few events. 28 million new internal displacements associated with conflict and disasters across 148 countries and territories were recorded in 2018, with nine countries each accounting for more than a million.

At 30 September 2018, there were 1305 people in immigration detention facilities, including 1270 in immigration detention on the mainland and 35 in immigration detention on Christmas Island.
