31 December 2012 - The head of Afghanistan’s Transition Coordination Commission today announced that the fourth tranche of transition would commence within the next two months, adding that once this is completed, Afghan forces would have security responsibilities for almost 90 percent of the population.

Speaking at a press conference in Kabul, Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmedzai said that according to a decision of the National Security Council (NSC), this fourth tranche of the transition process would cover 12 provinces

With the Almighty Allah’s blessing and the support of the Religious Scholars and the tribal influential, the Ministry of Education succeeded to reopen the primary schools of Chehel Ghour Badezo and the Imam Sahib of Panjwayee district of Kandahar province.

With resuming of those school’s classes, over 1000 students who for some time were deprived of pursuing education, could resume their classes.
Noteworthy is the fact that during the current year of 1391 a total of 45 schools were reopened in the province.

The Mine Action Co-ordination Centre of Afghanistan (MACCA) has commissioned Samuel Hall to assess the current approach to Mine Risk Education, and community perceptions of deminers. The findings are based on fieldwork conducted in 2012 in Kabul, Parwan and Paktia through a survey of 500 individuals and focus groups with community members, deminers and land mine survivors.

Through this experience of an unprecedented catastrophe, a movement was generated naturally, a movement to look back at how our society and economy has been formed, and trying to bring back the connections between people and people, as well as people and communities. There was a momentum to create a society for change.

UNMAS is the United Nations focal point for mine action. Fourteen entities are working together in the United Nations system to implement the United Nations vision of a world free from the threat of mine, and explosive remnants of war (ERW) including cluster munitions.   • Out of total 298,749 Consultations recorded in week-52 of 2012, 105,697 (35.4%) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.

  • Main causes of consultations this week are Acute Respiratory Infections/ARI (29.3%) and Acute Diarrheal Diseases/ADD (5.4%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
