I. SITUATION UPDATE
In the north, heavy weapons withdrawal continues with more than 400 weapons collected so far. UN operations in Sangcharak district in Saripul province remain suspended. In the northeast, due to heavy snow and ice on the runway, airports in Kunduz and Fayz Abad were closed.

In the east, UN missions to Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Nuristan provinces remained suspended.

KABUL, Dec 28, 2003 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- An essential mountain pass which links the Afghan capital with the country's northern provinces was reopened on Sunday after over nearly six months of rehabilitation.
