En 2002 et de nouveau en 2005, les gouvernements des Etats membres de l'Union européenne (UE) se sont engagés à accroître d'une manière substantielle l'aide aux pays pauvres. Selon les résultats officiels, la plupart des pays européens ont tenu leurs promesses relatives à l'aide. Les citoyens européens devraient cependant se retenir d'applaudir à cette annonce parce que nombre de gouvernements continuent à faire des déclarations trompeuses en ce qui concerne les budgets relatifs à l'aide: près d'un tiers de l'aide publique au développement (APD) déclarée ne sont pas réellement de l'aide.

Education Under Attack: A Global Study on Targeted Political and Military Violence Against Education Staff, Students, Teachers, Union and Government Officials, and Institutions

The objective of this report is to raise awareness and understanding of the extent to which those involved in education are facing violent attacks, particularly in complex emergency contexts, and what can and should be done about the problem. This study focuses on targeted violent attacks, carried out for political, military, ideological, sectarian, ethnic or religious reasons, against students, teachers, academics, education trade unionists, education officials and all those who work in or for education institutions such as schools, colleges and universities.

Corruption Perceptions and Risks in Humanitarian Assistance: A Liberia Case Study

This work is intended to be a constructive contribution to the better management of corruption risks inside aid agencies. The aim is therefore to promote:

- Greater understanding in aid agencies and among their staff about the key risks of corruption;

- The sharing of learning and existing tools, systems and policies for minimising corruption risks and dealing with corruption when it occurs.

- Thinking about how to improve tools, systems and policies in order to minimise and manage corruption risks.

The Global Overview provides an analysis of the world-wide internal displacement crisis, reflecting developments in 2006. It is a unique report in that it is the only comprehensive and regularly published account of the global internal displacement situation. NRC Annual Report 2006

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent, humanitarian organisation which provides assistance, protection and durable solutions to displaced persons worldwide. It is the only Norwegian humanitarian organisation to specialise in international work with this target group. NRC works in close collaboration with the UN and other organisations, both around the world and in Norway.

UK £36.5 million boost for peace in Nepal

UK Minister visits Nepal to support peace process

Gareth Thomas, UK International Development Minister, today announced support of £13 million to the Nepali Government led Peace Trust Fund and at least £23.5 million in debt relief until 2015.

The UK will give an immediate boost of £ 4.6 million to the Government led Nepal Peace Trust Fund to help push the peace process forward. This is made up of £1.5 million from its aid budget to Nepal and £0.8 million from the UK's Global Conflict Prevention Pooladobe pdf(1.2mb). A further £2.3 million comes from the UK Multilateral

Prevention and follow up of avian flu disease in the Great Lakes Region: The regional project for the prevention and monitoring of the avian flu pandemic was launched during a workshop in Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The workshop which took place from March 21st to 23rd was attended by heads of veterinary services from Burundi, DRC, Rwanda, representatives from the Belgian Cooperation in the said countries, and FAO representatives. Le 29 mars 2007, le Président Laurent Gbagbo a signé le décret rélatif à la nomination du Secrétaire général des Forces Nouvelles Guillaume Soro au poste de Premier Ministre. Selon l'esprit de l'Accord de paix, les forces politiques ivoiriennes réunies à Ouagadougou avaient désigné le 24 mars 2007 Soro pour remplacer Charles Konan Banny à la Primature.

Sudan: Darfur Humanitarian Profile No. 27 - Situation as of 01 Apr 2007

1. The first three months of 2007 confirmed the trend of wide-spread insecurity that intensified after the signing of the Darfur Peace Agreement on 5 May 2006. Between January and March 2007, over 110,000 people have been newly displaced throughout Darfur, some 80,000 in South Darfur alone.
