Child victims of suspected poison gas attack receive treatment
Description: Two children with symptoms of toxicity from a suspected poison gas attack in Kafr Zeita, Hama, were treated at our Women and Children's Hospital in Atmeh, Syria on 13 April 2014. According to Dr Mohammed speaking on this video: "These two children, Maryam Alfaraj (aged 7) and Mohammed Alfaraj (aged 5), were brought in by their aunt. Their mum was transferred to Turkey as an emergency as her condition was very bad. These children are doing reasonably well now but they remain on oxygen. We don't know what the gas is that was used in this attack". Their aunt describes what happened: "At the time of the attack, the girl and her mother were outside in the street. A plane hit their home with a bomb, and both it and the one next to it were burnt down completely. Maryam's mum had symptoms of suffocation, the local hospital couldn't admit her so she was transferred to another hospital and from there to Turkey. The children seemed initially okay but Maryam got worse last night so we brought her here, and this morning we found the same with Mohammad and brought him here. We've checked to see how their mother is doing and the hospital says she is starting to improve but they are doing more tests to confirm. Most people have fled Kafr Zeita now, hardly anyone is left there".
