Rented Premises in Jordan
Description: Originally established as a temporary solution to address the lack of educational and health facilities, rented buildings have emerged as a leading challenge for UNRWA in Jordan. With more than 28,000 Palestine refugee students studying in 57 schools run from 32 rented buildings and 8 rented health centres serving a population of more than 237,000 Palestine refugees, these rented buildings are no longer able to meet the needs of the growing population of refugees. To address this, in cooperation with partners and the Government of Jordan, UNRWA has ramped up efforts to rehabilitate and construct facilities to best meet the Agency’s needs and the needs of its beneficiaries. In doing so, UNRWA will be able to provide better, more accessible services for Palestine refugees in Jordan and continue to support their human development.

Jordan: Syrian family prepares for a new life in Texas
Description: A father of three from the war-ravaged city of Homs says resettlement from Jordan to the United States will provide a brighter future for his children, despite pain of leaving loved ones behind. “I’m leaving because of my kids, for their future. I hope they can get a good education and have a better life than the one that I have lived,” Firas said. “The hardest part is that I am leaving my family behind, especially my father.” Together with his wife Samira and their three children, the former car mechanic from rural Homs was staying at his father’s small apartment in the northern Jordanian city of Irbid before boarding a flight to the United States, where the young family is being resettled. http://www.unhcr.org/news/latest/2017/2/58aeff094/move-offers-bittersweet-hope-struggling-syrian-family.html Information for media: If you would like to use this video to communicate refugee stories or require B-Roll, transcripts, stills or much more information, please contact us at drozditb@unhcr.org or tibaw@unhcr.org. --- Keep up to date with our latest videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/unhcr?sub_confirmation=1 -- UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, works to protect and assist those fleeing war and persecution. Syrian Refugee Camp Soap Opera - Jordan
Description: The back of one caravan at Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan has become the unlikely set for a comedy series made by a group of talented refugees who want to send a message to their fellow refugees and to the world that life at the camp goes on and that time and limited resources can be used wisely for sending an important message about global social issues. Ahmed Hareb and his friends are about to start filming on their soap opera, entitled Ziko & Shreko. It offers a humourous take on serious issues affecting Syrian refugees, including child labour and early marriage. They often film at night due to the lack of electricity in the camp during the day, when they hold rehearsals instead.
