Iraq: Displaced children share what they miss most | UNICEF
Description: The battle for Mosul has forced these children to flee their homes and leave everything they know and love behind. We sat down with them and asked them what they miss most. Children in Mosul have been through three years of traumatic experiences and months trying to survive intense fighting. We are working to protect every child affected by the conflict. These vulnerable children need protection and care, to be safe and supported to recover; they need nutrition support, clean water, health services. They need a chance to be children again, with hope for a brighter future. Babies Impacted by Violence in Mosul, Iraq
Description: Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has treated more than 300 babies for malnutrition in Qayyara, Iraq, since March, most of them under 6 months old. Many of these sick infants arrived with families fleeing the besieged part of western Mosul. Their mothers have often been unable to breastfeed due to the trauma and living conditions they've endured, and in western Mosul there is little access to formula or health care. Rebuilding hope, lives, and a future in Mosul, Iraq
Description: As fighting to retake West Mosul nears end, displaced families are returning to their liberated neighborhoods in the east of the city. The scale of destruction is evident, but for many in Al-Khadra neighborhood, it is a scene of hope and resilience. Father-of-five Ahmad is already rebuilding his house, which was completely destroyed by the militias. More than 900,000 people have been displaced since the start of the military operation to retake Mosul. Displaced Mosul war widows live with grief
Description: "I loved him so much,” says Aamra, remembering her husband killed during their flight from West Mosul. Widows fleeing the conflict in Iraq are among the most vulnerable IDPs (Internally Displaced People). Living away from home and without a source of income, they face a daunting fight to provide for their families. Female-headed households represent a quarter of all the families in the UNHCR-run Hammam al-Alil 2 camp, which currently hosts over 1,462 people outside Mosul.
