Cameroon: Incentivizing Hospitals to Improve Maternal and Child Health Care
Description: Cameroon’s Northwest region has some of the worst health and poverty outcomes in the country. Since 2011, with financing from the Government, IDA – the World Bank’s Fund for the poorest countries, and others, Cameroon has been improving those outcomes with a program called Performance Based Financing (PBF). Building on that work, in 2017, with the support of the Global Financing Facility (GFF), Cameroon through close collaboration and coordination among the government, partners and civil society, will scale-up high impact interventions such as PBF to the regions identified as the priority in the national Investment Case.

Cameroon and Nigeria cross border operations
Description: UN agencies and NGO partners are now conducting high risk cross-border operations, delivering food and aid to over 20,000 people stranded in Banki, between Boko Haram controlled areas in NE Nigeria and the border with Cameroon. In Banki, all houses have been destroyed and people are gathered in an overcrowded IDP camp in the middle of this ghost town. The army has secured the area but civil authorities are not yet functioning in this fragile setting. One child out of four suffers from severe or moderate acute malnutrition. Before food delivery started, MSF had estimated that 20 people were dying every day in Banki. All of the over 20,000 people in Banki, and especially children, are in urgent need of food, water and health support. Cameroon: Central African Republic Refugees Register to Vote
Description: Salihu Hassan, 57, from the Central African Republic may be a refugee now but he still wants to have a say in who rules his nation. He is one of approximately 250,000 Central African refugees who have fled into Cameroon since the outbreak of violence in CAR in 2013, and one of many who have managed to register to vote. For the past month (November), teams from CAR’s National Elections Authority have visited camps in Eastern Cameroon. But they are understaffed and the work has proceeded slowly. As of November 21, only about one third of eligible voters had been registered. Salihu's elder sister Habiba Hassan, is among those who has not been able to register. Presidential and parliamentary elections in CAR, which are planned for December 27, will end the transitional government put in place to stem the ongoing crisis. The Central African parliament initially tried to block refugees from voting in the election, but the decision was overturned by the Central African high court.
