Africa Shares: Innovation Transforming Refugee Lives
Description: From high-tech to home-grown solutions, innovation is empowering African refugees and their hosts, transforming their lives Africa Shares is a forum that highlights refugees as assets to the communities that host them. From the 14 to 16 March, UNHCR will host the event in Geneva, where refugees' skills in artistry, innovation and entrepreneurship will be on display. Eight projects from seven countries will be exhibited: Instant Network Schools (Kenya), Malian refugee artisans (Burkina Faso), We Love Reading (Ethiopia), energy-saving fuel project (Rwanda), One Love project (Zimbabwe), Microsoft internet connectivity (Malawi), urbanisation and subsidised gas initiatives (Niger). Africa Shares shows that innovation is wide-spread across the continent, and that refugees and displaced communities are the drivers of innovation. Through it, they are translating challenges into opportunities and success stories. Mahamadi, Oxfam's Cultural Mediator in Sicily
Description: Mahamadi left Burkina Faso in 2011 after he was arrested for protesting against the government. He travelled through Mali, Niger and after travelling across the desert on foot, reached Libya. When fighting escalated in Libya he fled to Italy. This summer, Mahamadi worked as a Cultural Mediator for Oxfam's Mobile Unit in Sicily. Here he shares his personal story.

Une politique de sécurité nutritionnelle en Afrique de l’Ouest - version longue
Description: En 2015, on estime que 5,8 millions d’enfants âgés de moins de cinq ans souffraient de malnutrition aiguë en Afrique de l’Ouest. Afin de répondre à cette situation, Action contre la Faim a mis en œuvre de 2012 à 2015, à travers une convention-programme co-financée par l'Agence Française de Développement, un programme de sécurité nutritionnelle dans trois pays d'Afrique de l'Ouest, le Niger, le Burkina Faso et la Sierra Leone. Grâce à ce financement multisectoriel et pluriannuel, les trois pays ont pu développer des activités de traitement mais aussi de prévention de la malnutrition, à travers des partenariats avec les services étatiques et la société civile locale. En complément, un plaidoyer basé sur les évidences de terrain et sur la mise en place d’un réseau de champions de la nutrition dans 11 pays de la région, a permis d’influencer les autorités nationales et régionales, en faveur d’une intégration de la nutrition dans un système de santé renforcé et dans les autres secteurs contributeurs (eau, assainissement et hygiène, éducation, protection sociale).
