The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) was established in 1949 to carry out direct relief and works programmes for Palestine refugees. In its 2013 mandate renewal of UNRWA, the General Assembly affirmed the importance of the provision of services for the wellbeing, protection and human development of the Palestine refugees and for the stability of the region, pending the just resolution of the question of the Palestine refugees (see Assembly resolution 68/76, para. 3).

While the presence of the UN peace operation MONUSCO in the DRC is crucial, it needs to adapt to the deepening crisis as violence escalates in parts of the country, and recognise President Kabila’s role in the country’s instability. The UN should use its forthcoming strategic review to adjust the mission to these challenges.
27 July 2017 – The Ministry of Public Health and Population of Yemen has reported a cumulative total of 408 583 suspected cases of cholera including 1885 associated deaths as of 26 July for the outbreak which started in October 2016.
The overall case-fatality rate of 0.5% remains below the emergency threshold of 1%. However it is higher in Raymah (1.2%), Ibb (0.8%) and Hajjah (0.8%). The number of suspected cholera cases and deaths has declined compared to previous weeks, although there is a backlog of case information currently under review, and these numbers could change.

To date, there are 183 families or 664 persons affected in 8 Barangays in 2 Cities in NCR.

A total of 183 families or 664 persons were displaced and served in NCR; all of which opted to stay with their relatives and friends.
Almost 1 million people fled from western Mosul and western Ninewa Governorate as of 26 July, surpassing humanitarians’ ‘worst-case’ estimates. Beyond Mosul, sustained efforts are now needed to support more than 700,000 people who lost everything.
Protection remains a top priority, especially for minority groups, women and children. The targeting of these groups is a particularly disturbing feature in Ninewa Governorate and in other areas of the country.
27 July 2017 – The Ministry of Health of Somalia has reported 1068 AWD/cholera cases and 3 deaths for week 28 (10 – 16 July 2017) with a case-fatality rate of 0.3%. Of these, the highest number of cases (286/27%) was reported in Middle Shebelle region, followed by Mudug, Sool and Banadir.
