Estonia becomes first-time FAO donor

Funding for development assistance to countries from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus

19 April 2012, Baku, Azerbaijan - Estonia has signed an agreement with FAO that for the first time provides voluntary funding to the Organization's development programme.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva and the Estonian Minister of Agriculture Helir-Valdor Seeder at a ceremony on 18 April, the day before the opening of the Regional Conference for Europe.

Estonia Providing Aid to Victims of Armed Conflict in Libya

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet stated that the humanitarian situation in Libya is extremely alarming and the international community must react in order to help those who have suffered as a result of the conflict in Libya. The Foreign Ministry is allocating 50 000 euros through the World Food Programme in order to improve the situation of the people of Libya.

Estonia Helping to Improve Availability of Education in Southern Sudan

Nr 146-E

The Foreign Ministry is responding to the UN’s appeal for humanitarian aid with 30 000 euros, which will support the project of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to increase the availability of education for children in Southern Sudan. This sum was allocated from the Foreign Ministry’s budget for humanitarian aid.
