BRAZZAVILLE, REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO **– **Le Programme alimentaire mondial des Nations Unies (PAM) se réjouit de la généreuse contribution du gouvernement du Japon d’un montant de 1 933 000 dollars américains, dont 1 million donné en nature (73 tonnes de conserves de poisson). Cette contribution va permettre au PAM de venir en aide à des milliers d’enfants vulnérables, en leur apportant des repas chauds quotidiens dans le cadre des cantines scolaires.

An escalating confrontation between the armed forces of the Republic of Congo (ROC) and suspected former rebels called the Ninjas has forcibly displaced thousands of people in southeastern Pool province and has disrupted farming in the country’s most fertile region. We are afraid some 13,000 displaced people soon may not have enough to eat as a result.

(MissionNewswire) Salesian missionaries at the Salesian Center of St. Charles Lwanga, located in Makelekele, a suburb of Brazzaville, the capital and largest city of the Republic of the Congo, operate a parish, youth center and primary school. The center recently raised funds through the help of the Salesian Missions office in Madrid, Spain and other donors to develop a hydraulic system and water tower to collect and distribute water from the existing well for the more than 900 people who pass through the center daily.

ACTED mène actuellement un projet pilote d’appui aux petits fermiers du département de la Bouenza, dans le sud du Congo, en partenariat avec le Programme Alimentaire Mondial (PAM).

Au Congo, la lutte contre la faim et la sécurité alimentaire sont des enjeux de taille – or, le secteur agricole reste peu développé, et 70% des produits alimentaires sont importés. Avec ce projet d’appui aux petits producteurs locaux, ACTED et le PAM entendent promouvoir une alimentation scolaire à base de produits locaux, tout en renforçant la sécurité alimentaire dans la région.
