MAINARI (Cameroun), 22 mai 2013 (AFP) - "Nous n'avons rien pris en partant, même pas un seul drap. (...) Nous n'avons plus rien", raconte Aoudou, assis sur une natte posée à même le sol. Ce Nigérian a fui son pays la semaine dernière avec sa femme et ses quinze enfants, pour rejoindre le village camerounais de Maïnari (extrême-nord), frontalier du Nigeria.

UNICEF Cameroon Situation Report - 26 April 2013

Highlights

· The armed clashes in Central African Republic had an impact on the refugees coming into the East region. As of April 23 a total of 1,889 refugees arrived to Cameroon, mainly East - 800 asked for asylum in Yaounde and Douala and 490 Refugees have been relocated in Nandoungue Camp( East). UNICEF is active in the development of an Inter-Agency contingency plan both at regional and county level for the CAR refugees.

24 April 2013: My interest in public health and malaria dates back to the 1990s, when an economic crisis struck my country, Cameroon. People did not have enough money to buy medicines for their children, and I watched babies die in their parents’ arms from malaria, a disease so easy to prevent.

World Bank to Help Build Safety Net System Aimed at Reducing Poverty and Vulnerability in Cameroon

WASHINGTON, March 21, 2013 – The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved a credit of US$50 million to assist Cameroon build a national safety net system that will directly benefit 420,000 vulnerable people during the life of the project. Through cash transfers and public works, the safety net system will help reduce poverty and ensure people benefit more equitably from economic growth.

Cameroonian Farmers Find Justice in Fair Fruit

DOUALA, Cameroon, Mar 14 2013 (IPS) - The fruit farmers in Njombe, a small town in the coastal Littoral Region of Cameroon, learned a life lesson about “making lemonade out of lemons” – or rather “dried fruit out of fruit” when their land was taken from them by the government and leased to an international farming company.

In 1998, 34 fruit farmers lost 70 hectares of their land to Plantation de Haut Penja (PHP), a subsidiary of French company Compagnie Fruitiere, to which the Cameroonian government leased 4,500 hectares of land to grow bananas.

  • An EU and ECHO joint delegation undertook a 5 day mission to the Far North region and, along with UNICEF/French Red Cross, conducted a joint evaluation of the nutrition response to the Sahel crisis in 2012.

  • Security concerns have been elevated after the reported kidnapping of Seven French Nationals from the Far North region.

  • SMT has updated the security plans for North since the kidnappings, which has been raised to Level 2 low.

• Operations Update No 1 was issued on 19 November 2012 to highlight the achievements since the beginning of the operation.
