HAMILTON, July 15 (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Bertha sprinted away from Bermuda on Tuesday, after lashing the mid-Atlantic British colony with storm-force winds and heavy rains, cutting power to thousands and forcing airlines to cancel flights.

Police in Bermuda, a wealthy offshore finance center, reported no injuries. Clean-up crews had to remove some fallen trees from roads and a car fell into a sinkhole.

The storm knocked out power to around 7,500 homes as it passed by but all but a relative handful -- 150 customers

The island of Bermuda is no stranger to severe storms, and had battened down in preparation. There were widespread power outages, but no serious damage or injuries were reported, according to the Associated Press on July 15. Rip tides and surf were unusually strong not only in Bermuda, but along much of the east coast of the United States,
