The following press statement was issued today by Security Council President Kodjo Menan ( Togo):

The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the deadly attacks that occurred on Saturday, in the Turkish town of Reyhanli, Hatay, which resulted in the deaths of at least 46 people and dozens of injuries. The members of the Security Council expressed their deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the families of the victims of these heinous acts, and to the Government and people of Turkey.

This is a very slight decrease (204 persons less) to the total number of 09 May 2013 due to more returns than arrivals. It was reported by AFAD that the during the weekend 10-12 May, 883 new arrival Syrians were registered and accommodated in the camps and 1,164 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria.

Turkey twin bombings death toll rises to 48

REYHANLI, Turkey, May 13, 2013 (AFP) - Turkey recovered on Monday the bodies of two more people killed in the twin bombings near the Syrian border town of Reyhanli, pushing up the death toll to 48 as many others remained missing.

The bodies were found in a sewer near the blast zones in the southeastern border town two days after twin car bombings which Ankara blamed on a radical Marxist group affiliated with the Damascus regime.

Turkey protect Syrian refugees after bombings backlash

REYHANLI, Turkey, May 12, 2013 (AFP) - Turkish police moved on Sunday to protect Syrian refugees after residents of Reyhanli turned their anger on them in the wake of twin bombings that killed at least 46 people in this border town with Syria.

As cranes removed charred debris from the scenes of Saturday's twin car bombings, blamed on pro-Damascus forces, dozens of cars with Syrian plates lay vandalised in the town's streets.

UNHCR chief condemns Turkey attacks

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. António Guterres, expressed his deep condolences to the Turkish State and to all Turkish people for the extensive loss of life and injuries suffered as a result of the explosions in Reyhanli, Turkey today.

He condemned these despicable attacks on civilians, stating that these terrorist activities targeted both the Turkish people and Syrian refugees who have received protection in Turkey. UNHCR supports Turkey at this difficult time and extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of those impacted.

Secretary-General strongly condemns deadly car bomb attack in southeastern Turkey

11 May 2013 – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned “in the strongest terms” the car bomb attack that reportedly killed 40 people today in the town of Reyhanli, in Turkey's Hatay province.

In a statement issued by his Spokesman in New York, the Secretary-General expressed the hope that the perpetrators of the attack will be swiftly identified and brought to justice.

Appeal target (current): CHF 32,311,219

Appeal coverage: Multilateral contributions technically channelled through the IFRC Secretariat reach a 26 per cent coverage of the Appeal’s budget. The global appeal coverage is 46 per cent, including bilateral and multilateral contributions.

Due to the extension of the appeal by three months, further contributions from the donor community continue to be more than welcome.
