Since 1 January 2017, 201 suspected cases of meningitis with 17 deaths were reported by 19 health districts. In week 2, the district of Akebou which is part of the Plateau Region issued an alert after four cases of meningitis were reported. In week 4, the epidemic threshold was reached with nine cases and an attack rate of 12.4 per 100 000 inhabitants. From 2 January to 12 February 2017, 48 suspected meningitis cases with three deaths were reported (case fatality rate of 6.3%). Of these, 14 specimens were confirmed as Neisseria meningitidis serogroup W by PCR.

Around 300 people from the Government, the civil society, and the private sector attended the event. The Prime Minister and the traditional chiefs were present. The Forum participants agreed on a joint declaration and a series of recommendations.

Les mouvements migratoires concernant le Togo sont notables aussi bien au niveau interne que vers l’extérieur. Ces dernières années, les destinations se sont diversifiées. Mais les Togolais vont de préférence vers les pays africains (80 %) : le Ghana (415 049), le Nigéria (100 428), la Côte d’Ivoire (55 680), le Bénin (45 498) et le Burkina Faso (23 768). Au regard des statistiques, les pays de l’OCDE sont moins souvent les destinations privilégiées des migrants togolais : l’Allemagne (10 219), la France (9 371), l’Italie (4 422) et la Belgique (2 708).

L’épidémie de méningite survenue en janvier dernier a touché 1.820 personnes et causé 123 décès. Trois régions ont été touchées particulièrement touchées, la Kara, Centrale et Savanes. Des chiffres communiqués mercredi en conseil des ministres.

Le Togo fait partie de la ceinture de méningite, bande de terre allant de l’Atlantique à la Mer Rouge et comportant vingt-six (26) pays. La population à risque est estimée à 430 millions d’habitants.

Il est temps de revenir à la maison. La ministre ivoirienne de la Solidarité, de la Cohésion sociale et de l'Indemnisation des victimes, Koné Mariatou, a appelé les Ivoiriens en exil à rentrer chez eux estimant que la paix était revenue dans le pays.

‘Que nos frères et soeurs réfugiés dans plusieurs pays de la sous-région reviennent ; la paix est revenue et le pays vous attend", a déclaré Mme Mariatou.

Près de 3.000 Ivoiriens vivent en exil au Togo ; ils étaient arrivés lors de la crise politique il y a 7 ans.
