06/05/2013 - Australia delivered USD 5.44 billion in official development assistance (ODA) last year, or 0.36% of its growth national income. It is the eighth most generous country in the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC), which groups the world’s major donors. Australia’s goal is to reach 0.5% of GNI by 2017 – a goal the DAC encourages it to follow through on, given its good track record and relatively strong economy.

CERF Activities in 2012

This is the highest amount CERF has ever allocated in a calendar year and included life-saving funding for operations in the Sahel, the Syrian Arab Republic and neighboring countries, as well as countries affected by Hurricane Sandy. CERF Rapid Response funding was key to jump-starting these and other sudden-onset emergencies. CERF also provided vital funding to underfunded, chronic crises.

US Spending in Haiti: The Need for Greater Transparency and Accountability

An estimated $9 billion of public and private funding has been spent on disaster recovery in Haiti since the 2010 earthquake. Of that, $2.25 billion in public funding has been disbursed by the United States alone. But despite the large amount of public money involved, it is nearly impossible to track how it has been spent and what has been achieved. The transparency and accountability of US spending in Haiti needs to be improved. Here we suggest three steps to do so: Require prime contractors to report subcontracting data Adopt the International Aid Transparency Initiative

Aid for Nutrition: Mobilizing Innovative Financing for the fight against undernutrition

Undernutrition is a major public health challenge in developing countries, yet effective interventions are well-known. Together these appeals request US$1.5 billion, with around US$1 billion for the RRP, to meet the needs of more than half a million refugees who have fled Syria to Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey and Egypt and US$519 million through the SHARP to meet the needs of over 4 million people inside Syria.
