• No new official figures have been announced by the Government of Turkey on 15 May 2013, therefore the total number of Syrians registered and accommodated in 17 camps in 8 provinces remained the same at 193,767, including 364 who are under medical treatment in the hospitals. This is an increase of approx. 31% since end of Dec. 2012.

With an estimated 400,000 refugees in the country and a total of 1 million expected by year-end, pressure is building but no country seems eager to receive the refugees.

• On 14 May 2013, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey announced that the total number of Syrians registered and accommodated in 17 camps in 8 provinces is 193,767 including 364 Syrians receiving medical treatment in hospitals. Reportedly during the last 24 hrs (13-14 May 2013) 363 new arrival Syrians were registered and accommodated in the camps and only 11 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria.

The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the deadly attacks that occurred on Saturday, in the Turkish town of Reyhanli, Hatay, which resulted in the deaths of at least 46 people and dozens of injuries. The members of the Security Council expressed their deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the families of the victims of these heinous acts, and to the Government and people of Turkey.

• On 12 May 2013, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey announced that the total number of Syrians registered and accommodated in 17 camps in 8 provinces is 193,167 including 336 Syrians receiving medical treatment in hospitals. This is a very slight decrease (204 persons less) to the total number of 09 May 2013 due to more returns than arrivals. It was reported by AFAD that the during the weekend 10-12 May, 883 new arrival Syrians were registered and accommodated in the camps and 1,164 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria.

REYHANLI, Turkey, May 12, 2013 (AFP) - Turkish police moved on Sunday to protect Syrian refugees after residents of Reyhanli turned their anger on them in the wake of twin bombings that killed at least 46 people in this border town with Syria.

As cranes removed charred debris from the scenes of Saturday's twin car bombings, blamed on pro-Damascus forces, dozens of cars with Syrian plates lay vandalised in the town's streets.

11 May 2013 – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned “in the strongest terms” the car bomb attack that reportedly killed 40 people today in the town of Reyhanli, in Turkey's Hatay province.

In a statement issued by his Spokesman in New York, the Secretary-General expressed the hope that the perpetrators of the attack will be swiftly identified and brought to justice.
