  • After a full week of search and rescue, operations for the landslide in Banjarnegara District, Central Java have ceased. In total, 95 people were killed and 13 are still missing. Approximately 2,000 people are still displaced. The Government and NGOs are providing assistance.

  • On 18 and 20 Dec Mount Gamalama erupted spewing volcanic ash 1,000 meters into the sky. No immediate reports of damage has been reported.

Indonesia temporarily closed a domestic airport Friday after a volcano in the country's east erupted, spewing plumes of ash hundreds of metres into the air, officials said.

The volcano, Mount Gamalama -- which forms the entire island of Ternate in North Maluku province -- erupted late Thursday and was still coughing up ash the following day.

While no one in the area has yet been told to evacuate, an airport in Ternate town at the mountain's foot was forced to close, the transport ministry said.

Luanda - Five 40-foot containers with food and building materials bound for Cabo Verde hit by a volcanic eruption on the archipelago's Fogo Island are being loaded since Thursday onto the Angolan Navy's Rio Mbridge ship, in Luanda, Angop learnt.

The 51 ton-relief include corn flour, rice, beans, sausage, cooking salt and cooking oil, as well as building material comprising zinc sheets, rods and tubes.

The ship is expected to reach Cape Verde within 15 days.

The biggest eruption of Cape Verde volcano Pico do Fogo in decades has destroyed two villages and threatens a forest reserve Tuesday, officials said.

Some 1,500 people were forced to abandon their homes before the lava flow reached the villages of Portela and Bangeira on Fogo island in the Atlantic archipelago, fire brigade chief Arlindo Lima said late Monday on national radio.

Una fumarola de 1.400 metros fue divisada en el volcán Nevado del Ruiz en la madrugada de este lunes por los directivos del Observatorio Vulcanológico de Manizales, por lo que se afirma que se mantiene la actividad volcánica.

La fumarola proviene del cráter Arenas y fue avistada en la zona centro del país en los municipios de Caldas y Tolima del área de influencia, y en localidades de Quindío y Risaralda en la zona del parque natural de Los Nevados, según informó Caracol Radio.

GENEVA, 12 December 2014 - The President of the Cape Verde National Civil Protection Service, Arlindo Lima, has warned that the situation on the island of Fogo is likely to get worse in the coming days as volcanic activity continues and lava pours out of the Chã das Caldeiras crater where it has already destroyed two villages.
