Since late December, enhanced seasonal rainfall has resulted in large moisture surpluses and several floods. The risk of additional flooding remains high throughout Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, and southwestern Tanzania.

Germany - A new data briefing produced by IOM’s Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC) highlights a 27 percent increase in migrant deaths worldwide during 2016 compared to 2015. MEXICO CITY – The impact of insecurity and violence uprooting tens of thousands of people from the Northern Triangle of Central America is becoming increasingly evident in Mexico, UNHCR’s international protection chief said today, urging greater regional efforts to provide effective refugee protection.
The Salvadorian Government is actively participating in the project Comprehensive initiatives to prevent violence in El Salvador, carried out by Interpeace in this country, providing political support and technical training to at-risk youth who are in the process of developing their own productive enterprises, as a way to improve their living conditions.
Situation summary in the Americas
Since epidemiological week (EW) 44 of 2016, no additional countries or territories of the Americas have confirmed autochthonous, vector-borne transmission of Zika virus. To date, 48 countries and territories in the Americas have confirmed autochthonous, vector-borne transmission of Zika virus since 2015 (Figure 1). In addition, five countries in the Americas have reported sexually transmitted Zika cases.

The Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) devotes a significant proportion of its resources—up to 24 percent—to capacity-building efforts. In line with its mission, this is aimed at boosting the capacity of developing countries to better understand emerging disaster risks, reduce their vulnerabilities to natural hazards, and adapt to climate change. Capacity-building activities are generally integrated into GFDRR projects to support the overall objectives, rather than standalone projects.
