Las lluvias de las últimas horas en El Salvador destruyeron 3 viviendas y anegaron otras 43, informó hoy el secretario para Asuntos de Vulnerabilidad y Director General de Protección Civil, Jorge Meléndez.

Una vivienda en el municipio de San Martín fue "destruida por el desbordamiento de la quebrada", y las otras dos, ambas en Ilopango se cayeron "por el colapso de un muro en la comunidad Nuevo Horizonte", detalló Meléndez.

  1. Low and infrequent rainfall since late March has resulted in drought across parts of southeastern Kenya and northeastern Tanzania. The potential for recovery remains unlikely.

  2. Consistently below-normal rainfall over the past 4 weeks has resulted in abnormal dryness for portions of Uganda and western Kenya. This pattern has resulted in low soil moisture and poor vegetation health index values.

Zika virus – Incidence and trends

To date, 40 countries and territories have confirmed local, vector-borne transmission of Zika virus disease in the Region of the Americas since 2015 (Figure 1). Since the last Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Zika Epidemiological Update on 16 June 2016, Anguilla has confirmed vector-borne autochthonous transmission of Zika virus.

 As of 22 June 2016, 61 countries and territories report continuing mosquito-borne transmission (Fig. 1) of which:

 47 countries are experiencing a first outbreak of Zika virus since 2015, with no previous evidence of circulation, and with ongoing transmission by mosquitos (Table 1).

 14 countries reported evidence of Zika virus transmission between 2007 and 2014, with ongoing transmission.

On May 28, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Government of the Republic of El Salvador to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to five billion yen for the Stand-by Loan for Natural Disaster Recovery. This loan will ensure reserve funds in advance so that a quick disbursement for post-disaster reconstruction is secured when there is a financial need. For this purpose, JICA provides very low interest stand-by loan (0.01% / year) to the Government of the Republic of El Salvador.
