Suite à la confirmation de plusieurs cas de fièvre de Lassa au Togo, l’organisation médicale ALIMA (The Alliance For International Medical Action) a fait un don de médicaments et de matériel médical – dont des kits de protection au Ministère de la Santé togolais. « Ces kits permettront au personnel médical de se protéger d’un patient infecté afin de procurer des soins médicaux adaptés en toute sécurité », explique Mélanie Tarabbo, coordinatrice médicale pour ALIMA.

LOME/DAKAR, April 25, 2017 - Following the confirmation of several cases of Lassa fever in Togo, the medical organization ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) donated medicines and medical equipment, including personal protection kits, to the Togolese Ministry of Health. "These kits will allow medical personnel to protect themselves from an infected patient, in order to provide safe and appropriate medical care," said Mélanie Tarabbo, medical coordinator for ALIMA.

WaPOR: database dissemination portal and APIs

The FAO portal to monitor Water Productivity through Open access of Remotely sensed derived data (WaPOR) monitors and reports on agriculture water productivity over Africa and the Near East.

It provides open access to the water productivity database and its thousands of underlying map layers, it allows for direct data queries, time series analyses, area statistics and data download of key variables associated to water and land productivity assessments.

Situation overview

More than 10,000 people were displaced in the Segou and Mopti regions further to an inter-community conflict recorded in February 2017 in the administrative districts of Macina and Niono (Segou region). These new displacements increase the number of displaced people registered in the country due to the 2012 conflict and other inter-community clashes in northern (Menaka, Timbuktu) and central (Mopti) Mali to 45,766 people.

Suite à la confirmation de plusieurs cas de fièvre de Lassa au Togo, une équipe d’ALIMA (The Alliance For International Medical Action) mène actuellement une évaluation des besoins dans les structures médicales et au sein de la population dans la Région des savanes au nord du pays.

Selon le Ministère de la santé togolais, depuis le 25 février, au moins 7 cas confirmés et 4 décès ont été rapportés. Plusieurs dizaines de contacts sont actuellement suivis par les autorités sanitaires.

Following confirmation of several cases of Lassa fever in Togo, a team from ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) is currently conducting a needs assessment of the health structures and local population in Togo’s Savannah region, in the north of the country.

According to the Togolese Ministry of Health, since February 25, at least seven cases have been confirmed and four deaths were reported. Dozens of contacts are currently being monitored.

  1. Below-average and erratic rainfall since December has resulted in strong moisture deficits and degraded ground conditions. However, above-average rainfall since March has helped to alleviate seasonal dryness.

  2. Despite an increase in moisture following the passage of Tropical Cyclone Enawo during early March, long- term moisture deficits remain due to very poor rains earlier in the season throughout central and eastern Madagascar.
