CIUDAD DE PANAMÁ, 6 de diciembre de 2012 – Un nuevo conjunto de herramientas busca garantizar la salud y la seguridad alimentaria y nutricional de las madres vulnerables y sus niños en América Latina y el Caribe en caso de eventos económicos externos adversos o desastres naturales.

Diseñado por expertos del Banco Mundial, el manual provee asesoría en programas de respuesta nutricional de emergencia para gestores de políticas en la región, que se reúnen en una conferencia especializada los días 6 y 7 de diciembre para evaluar la iniciativa.

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, November 9, 2012 – The Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) and the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of The University of the West Indies have entered into a partnership to enhance the Accelerometric Network in the Eastern Caribbean and Jamaica in order to strengthen the evaluation and mitigation of seismic risk across the region.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Sep 26 2012 (IPS) - Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas remembers how quiet – even uneventful – this tiny twin-island federation was for the first four decades of his life.

But over the past 10 years, St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as the rest of the Caribbean, have seen radical climatic shifts. There is no question in Douglas’s mind that these changes are the direct results of climate change.

Effective disaster management not only reduces rebuilding cost and ensures the continued operation of Caribbean countries in the event of disaster, but enhances the quality of life for our citizens.

Disaster management planning is therefore A critical investment for all Caribbean communities. This was strongly emphasized by Ms Velda Octave-Joseph, CDEMA’s Community Disaster Management Specialist who provides support to Participating States to strengthen disaster resilience at the community level.
