Tents and generators from Italy for the refugees

New help from Italy for the Syrian refugees. A emergency humanitarian flight has airlifted 8 generators, 100 multi-purpose tents with heat-cold insulation for the winter, and 2000 blankets to Amman. The supplies, for Syrian refugees currently in refugee camps in Jordan, were delivered to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), which will distribute them over the next few days.

Italian relief aid arrives in Amman for Syrian refugees in Jordan

AMMAN, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- An Italian aircraft loaded with relief supplies arrived in Amman Saturday to help the Syrian refugees in Jordan.

The plane, the third in three months, is carrying 2,000 blankets, 100 thermal-insulated tents and eight generators with a value of 110,000 euros offered by the Italian government to help Jordan face growing demands of the Syrian refugees, especially in winter, official news agency (Petra) quoted the Italian ambassador, who was at the airport, as saying.

ShelterBox brings shelter to Italy's quake survivors

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck northern Italy on 29 May killing over 15 people and bringing down buildings near the city of Modena.

Reports say there is significant damage to infrastructure in the Emilia Romagna region and the tremor was felt in the cities of Bologna, Ferrar, Verona and Mantua.

A ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) has been delivering emergency shelter to families displaced by the 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck the same area on 20 May.

Second quake causes destruction in northern Italy

Following a second major earthquake in northern Italy, the Italian Red Cross, in close cooperation with civil protection authorities, has been hard at work undertaking relief and assistance work. Over 200 staff and volunteers swung into action following the magnitude 5.8 quake which struck this morning in Emilia Romagna.

As the operation continues, more people and transport from the Settimo Torinese and Verona emergency intervention centres are arriving and will work under the direction of local authorities.

Death toll rises to 16 in quake-struck Italy

SAN FELICE SUL PANARO, Italy, May 29, 2012 (AFP) - A strong earthquake on Tuesday rocked northeastern Italy, killing at least 16 people and injuring 350 just days after another quake in the same region wrought death and destruction.

One woman was pulled out alive from the rubble in the town of Cavezzo Tuesday evening, officials said.

Italian Red Cross volunteers respond to deadly earthquake

A magnitude-5.9 earthquake struck north-eastern Italy early in the morning of Sunday 20 May, killing at least seven people, injuring 50 and toppling several buildings. The quake struck at 4:04 am between Modena and Mantua, about 35 kilometres north-northwest of Bologna at a relatively shallow depth of five kilometres. The epicentre was between the towns of Finale Emilia, San Felice sul Panaro and Sermide, but was felt as far away as Tuscany and northern Alto Adige.

Italy declares state of emergency in quake zone

ROME, May 22, 2012 (AFP) - The Italian government declared a state of emergency in the quake-struck region of northeast Italy on Tuesday, where 5,000 people were camped out in temporary shelters amid fears of aftershocks.

The government declared a 60-day state of emergency for the area around Bologna, Modena and Ferrara and promised 50 million euros ($63 million) in aid to help rebuild houses and family-owned factories destroyed in the earthquake.

Italy quake zone hit by aftershocks as 5,000 seek shelter

Finale Emilia, Italy, May 21, 2012 (AFP) - Thousands of people prepared to spend a second night sheltering in cars and tent cities in northeast Italy Monday after a strong earthquake killed six people and caused massive damage.

Sunday's 6.0-magnitude quake reduced homes and historic buildings to rubble in sparsely populated countryside around the city of Ferrara, Italy's industrial heartland but also home to priceless architectural treasures.

Italian medical aid for stranded migrants arrives in Haradh, Yemen

IOM in Haradh on the Yemen-Saudi Arabia border yesterday took delivery of a consignment of essential medicines and medical supplies donated by the Italian government aid agency - Cooperazione Italiana.

The consignment was part of a 35-tonne Italian donation of medicine, high energy biscuits and blankets destined for conflict-displaced people and stranded migrants in Yemen, which included three supplementary health kits - each designed to treat a population of 10,000 people for three months.

Development Cooperation: emergency aid for the Republic of Congo

Italian Development Cooperation has made a donation of 50,000 euros in response to the serious emergency that has been developing in the Congo since 4 March, following the explosion of a munitions depot in the capital, Brazzaville. The aid is to support the emergency appeal launched by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent. The explosion caused 246 deaths, with 1500 injured and about 3500 evacuated.

Race against time amidst freezing temperatures in Europe

In the last 11 days, several Red Cross societies have been in a race against time to reduce the impact of the extreme cold. Estimates so far suggest 389 have died, and official sources say the winter has been the most brutal in decades.

Brussels, 08 February 2012 - Despite dealing with severe winter conditions at home, European countries have responded swiftly to Bulgaria’s request for assistance to fight floods and prevent further damage from the severe winter that has engulfed much of the country. Several dams are overflowing in Bulgaria due to the heavy snow of the past few days. On Monday, 6 February, a wall of the Ivanovo dam broke and the released water inundated the village of Biser in South Eastern Bulgaria. Other towns in the region are also in danger of flooding.
