MONROVIA, Liberia (PANA) - Total withdrawal of Ecomog African peacekeeping
force on Feb. 2 (Monday), is unlikely as some troops were still deployed
in rural Liberia.
The commander of the force, Maj-Gen. Timothy Shelpidi, told reporters
in Monrovia Saturday our departure is a political decision, and we can
only leave when we are told. As for now, we have not been told.
We are still well present on the ground, Shelpidi said. He, however,
said Gambia, Benin, Cote d'Ivoire and most troops from Guinea have already
