During the reporting week, repatriation of registered refugees to Afghanistan decreased by 9% compared to last week’s figure of 3,678. The return of undocumented Afghans also decreased by 22% compared to 8,428 individuals that returned between 9 and 15 April 2017. Some 89% (5,837 individuals) of the undocumented returnees were provided needs-based assistance by WFP, WHO,
UNICEF, and UNFPA in Afghanistan. Registered Afghan refugee returnees were provided with cash assistance by UNHCR Afghanistan.

During the reporting week, repatriation of registered refugees to Afghanistan increased by 50% compared to last week’s figure of 2,450. The return of undocumented Afghans also increased by 27% compared to 6,628 individuals that returned between 2 and 8 April 2017. Some 66% (5,600 individuals) of the undocumented returnees were provided needs-based assistance by WFP, WHO, UNICEF, and UNFPA in Afghanistan. Registered Afghan refugee returnees were provided with cash assistance by UNHCR Afghanistan.

The Humanitarian Strategic Plan addresses the needs of 2.23 million people in Pakistan. In 2017, the humanitarian partners will support 0.14 million people that have been displaced from FATA, .48 million IDPs that have returned to FATA, 1.34 million registered Afghan refugees, and 0.27 million malnourished children and women.

In addition, humanitarian partners will support the Government with disaster preparedness and coordination.

The Government of Pakistan declared 2016 “The year of returns”, and significant progress was made in ensuring the safe and dignified return of some 700,000 people during the year.

Following the decrease in returns during the winter season all IDPs are expected to return in 2017.

Of these, 4.8 million have returned, with some 700,000 returning in 2016.

A multi-cluster assessment of IDPs and returnees was conducted in KP and FATA which confirmed the pressing needs for livelihoods and basic social service.
