Finland grants humanitarian aid to the victims of heavy rains in Central America

By a decision made by Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will target EUR 400,000 of emergency aid to those suffering from the consequences of the heavy rains in Central America.

Japan: Donation from the Republic of Finland

1.On Tuesday, March 29, in response to the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake, the Government of the Republic of Finland announced that the Government will provide relief money of 500,000 euro (about 57.5 million yen) through the Finnish Red Cross.

2.The Government of Japan has received letters of sympathy from H.E. Ms. Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland, H.E. Ms. Mari Kiviniemi, Prime Minister, and H.E. Mr. Alexander Stubb, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Two cases of influenza A(H1N1) confirmed in Finland

The first laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1) have been discovered in Finland. The patients are two young adults from the Greater Helsinki Area who returned from Mexico on the same flight. The patients are treated at home and they both are well. Any close contacts of the two patients have been contacted and preventive measures against potential infections are continued.

All passengers on the flight KL 1161 on 6 May at 18.15-21.45 from Amsterdam to Helsinki are advised to contact the local health centre by telephone if they experience feverish symptoms
