These guidelines provide a practical guide to designing Public Health Promotion projects by outlining the different stages involved in carrying out such interventions.

The guidelines are meant for field workers - engineers, vector control officers and health workers - initiating public health promotion projects either as part of a water and sanitation or a vector control project. They will also be of use to managers who have the responsibility for ensuring an integrated and gender focussed approach to Oxfam's work.

Offering specific mitigation measures and emphasizing key components to be in place for health establishments to continue providing vital services during and in the immediate aftermath of a major emergency, the report also considers:

- Structural vulnerability
- Behavior of architectural finishes and of medical and support equipment and installations

This report aims to focus the attention of the world's leaders and opinion-makers on the problem of under-nourishment around the world and to spur development of innovative approaches to tackle it. For this purpose, it considers the following issues:

- Statistics on progress and reversals during the 1990s
- Underlying factors contributing most to gains and setbacks
- Impact of short-term shocks, such as war, natural disaster or financial crisis
- National efforts to identify population groups prone to food insecurity and malnutrition

A special fund has been set up by Partners of the Americas to help the people of Venezuela to recover from the worst natural disaster in more than 50 years. For the last two weeks the heaviest rainfall in one hundred years has been falling on Caracas and the northern states, where more than 75% of the country's population lives.
