NATURAL DISASTERS IN 2012

After an intense year of natural disasters in 2011, countries in the Asia-Pacific region welcomed a reduction in the number of events in 2012. OCHA and the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters recorded 93 natural disaster events in 2012, in which over 3,200 people were killed and more than 75 million people were affected. China and the Philippines experienced the most disasters in 2012.

• DPWH XI provided dump trucks for the transportation of assorted relief goods to different affected areas.

• AFP-EASTMINCOM provided trucks for the transportation of non-food items to the municipality of New Bataan, Cornpostela Valley.

• DOH-CHD X provided chlorination of water pumps, IEC and distribution of 100 water kits and hygiene kits at Boston, Davao Oriental. Additional 546 hygiene kits and water kits were provided in Boston, Davao Oriental by DSWD and UNICEF.

DSWD-XI extends P19M assistance to typhoon victims

DAVAO CITY, Dec. 13 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the region has extended more than P19-million worth of assistance to the 176,617 families affected by typhoon Pablo in four provinces of the region.

In its report as of 6:00 p.m. of Dec. 12, DSWD-XI has given various kinds of assistance amounting to P10.462 million to Mati City and ten municipalities in Davao Oriental which has 43,683 affected families.
