BOMA (KONGO CENTRAL), 13 janvier 2017 - Un rapport de situation sur les pires inondations - survenues durant la nuit du 27 au 28 décembre 2016 à Boma - réalisé par le Bureau provincial de l’OMS basé à Matadi, indique aujourd’hui que 3.450 ménages ont été sinistrés et que 40 personnes y sont mortes, noyées ou emportées par les eaux.

Three border posts along the Myanmar–Bangladesh border were attacked on 9 October by Harakah al-Yaqin, a resurgent group in Rakhine state which has supposed links to the Rohingya. In response, the Myanmar Army has deployed more troops into the northern Rakhine area, mainly in Maungdaw, and has conducted a security operation. COLOMBO, Jan 18 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - With rainfall in many areas just a third of that last year and many water reservoirs far below normal levels, Sri Lankans have begun holding traditional ceremonies to invoke rain - some with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena.
As Yemen approaches marking two years since the start of the conflict, the country faces one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the world. Around three million people -ten percent of the population- have been displaced, and ten million are uncertain of how they will provide food for themselves.
As of 11 January 2017, 15,658 suspected cholera cases have been reported in 156 districts.
A total of 180 out of 841 cases have tested positive for Vibrio Cholera, serotype Ogawa.
Overall, the epidemic curve shows a declining trend from week 51 onwards, while the attack rate remains high in some high risk districts.
Health response is underway through 26 Diarrhea Treatment Centres (DTC) in 24 districts; while WASH partners are undertaking response in 29 districts.
- The military offensive for Western Mosul could begin in the next 2 months and will most probably result in operations to retake the complex city of Telefar. It is estimated that there are 750 000 civilians inside Western Mosul, and 30-50 000 individuals in Telefar. The UN reported that access is extremely limited for humanitarian partners in these areas of Western Ninewa, predominantly under the control of Shia Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF). DG ECHO is promoting new partnerships in currently uncovered or underserved areas in Western Ninewa, including Telefar.

The Philippine Red Cross, together with the state health department, and with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), recently rolled out an orientation on the Surveillance in Post Extreme Emergencies and Disaster (SPEED) programme. SPEED is a mechanism activated during emergencies to provide real-time health information to around 65 Red Cross community volunteers in the provinces of Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Sur and Marinduque.

January 18th , 2017 ― Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has recently completed a number of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in the states of Central Equatoria and Northern Bahr El-Ghazal, the Republic of South Sudan.
Benefiting up to 84,600 people, these deliveries are part of a whole scheme undertaken by QRCS and Adeso, an African charity and development agency, with funding from Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).

HARARE — In Zimbabwe, doctors and aid organizations have called on the government to improve the country’s water and sanitation amid a typhoid outbreak.
Authorities have started dismantling vendors' malls as part of efforts to contain the outbreak that has struck more than 200 people in the capital, Harare, killing two, and has been detected in other parts of Zimbabwe.
Vendors say authorities must ensure citizens have adequate clean water and sanitation.
