Hormozgan earthquake OCHA Flash Update no. 1, 11 May 2013

  1. A 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in Hormozgan Province in Southern Iran at 06:38 local time on Saturday 11 May. The earthquake location was close to the port town of Bandar-e Jask, some 85 kilometers to the south of Minab and 270 kilometers to the southeast of the provincial capital, Bandar Abbas. Nineteen aftershocks were reported, some reaching a magnitude of 5.6.

  2. According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), one person (a 13 month-old child) was killed and 20 others were injured.

Distribution of 1000 Gas Air conditioner to the Earthquake affected People in Bushehr Province

Secretary General of the Iranian Red Crescent Society predicated the distribution of 1000 coolers to the Bushehr earthquake affected people

Because of the hot weather in the earthquake affected region of Bushehr, Dr. Mohammad Abbassi, Secretary General of the Iranian Red Crescent Society indicated that the urgent need of the earthquake affected people is the gas air conditioner.

Pakistan-Iran earthquake: CWS emergency appeal 04-26-13

SITUATION: On April 16, at least six people in Pakistan and 40 people in Iran were killed when a major earthquake, with a 7.8 magnitude, struck a region near the Iran-Pakistan border. Tremors were also felt in India and the Gulf states.

The epicenter was in southeast Iran in an area of scarcely-populated mountains and desert. It was located 125 miles southeast of the Iranian city of Zahedan and 155 miles northwest of Turbat in Pakistan.

Two severe earthquakes with a magnitude of 6 and 6.2 struck the northwest of Iran on August 11th, 2012. According to official figures published by the Red Crescent, 399 villages were affected by the quakes. About 12.000 houses were completely reduced to rubble. 1.800 injured persons had to be treated in hospitals, 12.000 people were given outpatient treatment.

Baluchestan earthquake OCHA Flash Update no. 2, 18 April 2013

  1. An earthquake registering 7.8 on the Richter scale occurred in Sistan and Baluchestan Province in southeastern in Iran on 16 April 2013 at 10:44:13 UTC (03:44:13 PM at epicentre). The epicentre was located between the cities of Khash (86 Km to the northwest) and Saravan (85 Km to the southeast) and the border with Pakistan (78 Km to the east). Nine aftershocks have been recorded so far with the strongest measuring 5.6.

Baluchestan earthquake OCHA Flash Update no. 1, 16 April 2013

Iran

An earthquake registering 7.8 on the Richter scale occurred in Sistan and Baluchestan Province in South-eastern in Iran, near the city of Khash (86 Km), 78 Km from the border with Pakistan, on 16 April 2013 at 10:44:13 UTC (03:44:13 PM at epicentre).

There are so far no official reports on the impact but various media outlets have reported up to 40 deaths (according to Iran State TV).

The Deputy Head of Iran's Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has declared the state of emergency in the quake-hit region of the Province.

Iran ups aid effort after deadly quake near nuclear plant

TEHRAN, April 10, 2013 (AFP) - Iran stepped up relief efforts on Wednesday for survivors of a powerful earthquake that killed 37 people and damaged dozens of villages but left its sole nuclear power station unscathed.

More than 90 villages in the southern province of Bushehr were hit hard by Tuesday's quake, with two completely destroyed, the head of Iran's Red Crescent rescue corps, Mahmoud Mozafar, told state television.

More than 850 people were injured and some 800 houses razed to the ground.

Bushehr Earthquake OCHA Flash Update no. 2, 10 April 2013

  1. The Iranian Red Crescent Society has announced the rescue operation is officially terminated.

  2. The death toll is 35 persons (8 children), with some 800 people injured, of whom 80 have been hospitalized in Khormoj city hospital.

  3. The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) is responding with 40 search and rescue teams (10 from Kerman Province, 5 from Isfahan, 10 from Fars, 5 from Kohkilouyeh, and 10 from Hormozgan) and 4 assessment teams. All emergency teams have now returned to their areas of origin.

NRC’s Shelter Pilot Project in the Province of Kerman

In the last quarter of 2012, NRC commissioned the design and construction of 4 shelter prototypes to two local architects.

Iran registered 3,015 earthquakes of varying magnitude in 2012, 356 in Kerman Province alone (4 of a magnitude higher than 5 points Richter).
