9 mai 2013 – Le mandat de la mission politique des Nations Unies en Guinée-Bissau, pays qui, l'an dernier, a subi un coup d'Etat, doit être réajusté en vue d'y soutenir un processus en deux phases pour le plein rétablissement de l'ordre constitutionnel et de la stabilité à moyen terme, affirme un rapport du Secrétaire général présenté jeudi au Conseil de sécurité. Dans ce contexte, affirme son Représentant spécial, l'appui de l'ONU à l'organisation des futures élections est à envisager sérieusement.

I. Introduction

20 December 2012 - A human rights manual for the armed forces, produced by the UN Integrated Peace-Building Office in Guinea-Bissau, UNIOGBIS, in collaboration with its partners, was validated this week in Bissau at a seminar organised by the Human Rights Section of UNIOGBIS.

The political crisis Guinea Bissau caused by the military coup on 12 April continues, according to the outgoing top United Nations envoy in the West African country.

For the past four years, Joseph Mutaboba has been trying to help the country rebuild its political institutions following years of coups since its independence from Portugal in 1974.

Mr. Mutaboba was in New York to brief the Security Council about the situation in the country.

As part of a project covering 3 countries in West Africa (Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal), the workshop, organized in Bissau from 27 to 28 November 2012, will provide an opportunity to validate the results of several case studies on the social movement of women and violence against women carried out following the "Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats" (SWOT) method.

15 November 2012 - The United Nations Integrated Peace-building Office in Guinea-Bissau, UNIOGBIS, and the Supreme Court, formally launched on Wednesday 14 November 2012 at the National Center for the Training of Magistrates (CENFOJ) in Bissau, a compendium of criminal laws, whose production it sponsored as part of the support it provides to Guinea Bissau’s justice sector.
