Hormozgan earthquake OCHA Flash Update no. 1, 11 May 2013

  1. A 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in Hormozgan Province in Southern Iran at 06:38 local time on Saturday 11 May. The earthquake location was close to the port town of Bandar-e Jask, some 85 kilometers to the south of Minab and 270 kilometers to the southeast of the provincial capital, Bandar Abbas. Nineteen aftershocks were reported, some reaching a magnitude of 5.6.

  2. According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), one person (a 13 month-old child) was killed and 20 others were injured.

Pakistan-Iran earthquake: CWS emergency appeal 04-26-13

APRIL 26, 2013

SITUATION: On April 16, at least six people in Pakistan and 40 people in Iran were killed when a major earthquake, with a 7.8 magnitude, struck a region near the Iran-Pakistan border. Tremors were also felt in India and the Gulf states.

The epicenter was in southeast Iran in an area of scarcely-populated mountains and desert. It was located 125 miles southeast of the Iranian city of Zahedan and 155 miles northwest of Turbat in Pakistan.

Two severe earthquakes with a magnitude of 6 and 6.2 struck the northwest of Iran on August 11th, 2012. According to official figures published by the Red Crescent, 399 villages were affected by the quakes. About 12.000 houses were completely reduced to rubble. 1.800 injured persons had to be treated in hospitals, 12.000 people were given outpatient treatment.

Baluchestan earthquake OCHA Flash Update no. 1, 16 April 2013

Iran

An earthquake registering 7.8 on the Richter scale occurred in Sistan and Baluchestan Province in South-eastern in Iran, near the city of Khash (86 Km), 78 Km from the border with Pakistan, on 16 April 2013 at 10:44:13 UTC (03:44:13 PM at epicentre).

There are so far no official reports on the impact but various media outlets have reported up to 40 deaths (according to Iran State TV).

The Deputy Head of Iran's Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has declared the state of emergency in the quake-hit region of the Province.

France’s generous donation to improve the health, livelihood & education of Afghan refugees in Iran

Tehran, 21 January 2013– Host to the second largest refugee population in the world, the Islamic Republic of Iran holds some 890,000 registered Afghan and Iraqi refugees. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) recently received close to 400,000 US Dollars as a donation from the Government of France contributing towards health, education and vocational trainings of Afghan refugees.

Summary: An Earthquake with the magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale rocked Eastern Province of Iran, South Khorasan province on 5 December 2012. As per Tehran University’s Seismological Center, the earthquake hit at 20:38 PM local time with an epicenter in Zohan city around 42 KM from Birjand the capital city of the province . A twin Earthquakes measuring 6.2 and 6 on the Richter scale shook north-western Iran, East Azerbaijan province on 11 August 2012. As per Tehran University’s Seismological Centre, The epicentre of the first earthquake was Owrang village located in Ahar city and epicentre of the second one was between Ali Abad and Zang Abad villages in Varzaghan city.

Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.4 and 6.2 on the Richter scale hit Northwest Iran, Eastern Azerbaijan Province on 11 August 2012. According to the reports of Seismological Centre of Tehran University, the epicenter of the first earthquake was Owrang village located in Ahar city and the epicenter of the second one was between Ali Abad and Zang Abad villages in Varzaghan city.

The devastating earthquakes have resulted in the death of 306 persons and injury of around 2,600 persons. The main destruction has been in the rural areas.

Germany will send medical relief for Iran's earthquake victims

Berlin, Aug 17, IRNA -- Germany is to send medical relief for the victims of Saturday's powerful twin earthquakes in northwestern Iran, the German Foreign Ministry announced here on Friday.

It is our compassionate duty to provide humanitarian help to those people who are in distress. They need our solidarity following Saturday's terrible earthquake catastrophe, Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said in a press statement.

German quake relief is to include medical and hygienic supplies.

  • 2 earthquakes and more than 60 aftershocks in the Islamic Republic of Iran have left 255 dead, 2006 injured and more than 16,000 homeless.
