Cette évaluation a permis ainsi de disposer d’informations précises sous les groupes les plus vulnérables, leurs besoins alimentaire et non alimentaire et la période et la durée de l’assistance.

Nutrition Survey Final Report - Maban Refugee Camps, South Sudan, February/March 2013

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Nutrition situation in South Sudan has remained precarious over the years owing to chronic food insecurity. The populations displaced from South Kordofan and Blue Nile states from 2011 owing to conflict, were installed into camps in the Maban county and high levels of malnutrition among the children was described as a humanitarian crisis. A survey conducted by Médecins sans Frontières -Belgium (MSF-B) in Batil camps subsequently in August 2012, revealed Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) rate of 39.8%.

WFP Donates Equipment Worth 7.4 Million Rupees To KP Health Department

Peshawar – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today handed over medical and information technology equipment worth over 7.4 million rupees to the Health Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The donation is designed to boost the quality of nutrition and healthcare services provided in seven key Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts, and includes weighing scales, delivery tables, oxygen cylinders and emergency lights, as well as computers and printers.

WFP Helping Burundi’s Fight Against Malnutrition

At Gakere health centre in the northern province of Ngozi, the World Food Programme is providing vital food supplements to malnourished pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under five.

Little Cécile weighed 2.70 kgs at birth in 2010. As time passed, her mother, Vénancie Sinzotuma, noticed that her youngest daughter was not growing normally. As soon as Cécile’s mother learned from a neighbour that WFP had a special feeding programme at Gakere, she did not hesitate.

Protracted Relief and Recovery Operation (PRRO) 200114 Quarterly M&E Bulletin - January to March 2013

The project started in July 2010 but was suspended during the implementation of emergency operation (EMOP 200266) from April 2011 to June 2012. The PRRO 200114 re-started in July 2012 and will be implemented until June 2013. The project assists about 2.4 million people, mainly children and pregnant and breastfeeding women. In partnership with the DPRK Government, WFP supports 14 factories which produce fortified biscuits and Super Cereals for children and women.

I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

•WFP Food distributions resumed outside of Bangui (in Bambari, South-East and Batalimo, South-West) on 1 May 2013. WFP food distributions had already resumed last week in Bangui following temporary suspension due to insecurity. WFP is progressively scaling up its activities as the security situation allows.

•To date, security incidents and looting are still reported in Bangui and in the rest of the country.

South Sudan Food Security Monitoring: Round 9, February 2013

Highlights

  • After the post-harvest improvement in food security indicators in October 2012, the food security situation is worsening as the lean season approaches. Since October 2012, the moderately food insecure has increased from 30% to 38%. The Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) using Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) also increased from 9% to 11% during the same period.

The Uganda 2013 CFSVA was produced by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the World Food Programme. The data for the analysis was from the Uganda National Panel Survey (UNPS), which surveyed 2,563 households from September 2009 to August 2010.

Japan Donates US$25 Million To Support WFP In Yemen, Enough To Feed More Than One Million

SANA’A – The United Nations World Food Programme welcomed today a US$25 million donation from the Government of Japan, which will provide enough funds to deliver vital food and nutritional assistance to more than one million people in Yemen for six months.

The donation will be used to purchase 29,000 metric tons wheat, wheat flour, beans and vegetable oil for distribution to a range of people in need, including food insecure households, Yemenis displaced from their homes by conflict, and young mothers and children threatened with malnutrition.

UNHCR/WFP Joint Assessment Mission Report: Assistance to the Refugees from Bhutan in Nepal (18 June-08 July 2012)

Following the enforcement of restrictive and discriminatory citizenship laws in Bhutan, over 100,000 refugees from Bhutan fled to Nepal in the early 1990s, where they were recognized on a prima facie basis by the Government of Nepal (GoN). The refugees from Bhutan were originally settled in seven refugee camps in south-eastern Nepal, where the GoN and UNHCR provided them with basic humanitarian assistance and international protection, in cooperation with other national and international partners, including WFP.

The Nepal Thematic Report on Food Security and Nutrition 2013, updates the status of food security and nutrition in Nepal, and analyzes key food security trends over the past 15 years. This report is based primarily on the findings of the Nepal Living Standards Survey (NLSS) 2010/11, which covered 5,988 households and included anthropometric data collected from approximately 2,500 preschool children under 60 months of age.

BISSAU – Le Programme alimentaire mondial des Nations Unies (PAM) a annoncé aujourd’hui que ses opérations en Guinée-Bissau devraient être interrompues en raison d’un déficit budgétaire, ce qui laisserait de nombreuses personnes vulnérables, y compris les jeunes mères et enfants, exposées à un risque élevé de malnutrition.

Funds urgently needed to address a silent crisis in Guinea-Bissau

BISSAU – The UN World Food Programme (WFP) today announced that its operations in Guinea-Bissau have stalled due to a lack of funds, leaving many vulnerable people, including young mothers and children, at increased risk of malnutrition.

WFP food assistance activities for 278,000 vulnerable people – which need US$7.1 milllion dollars through to the end of 2013 - were due to start on 1 March.
