UNICEF Central African Republic Situation Report - Reporting Period 21 May - 13 June 2013

Headlines

  • 122,869 children were vaccinated against measles following a successful measles campaign carried out in Bangui from 22-26 May, reaching 99% of the target population of 125,000 according to preliminary data. In addition, of the target population, 112,370 children received Albendazole for deworming and 120,313 children were administered Vitamin A.

  • Since 27 May 2013, 141 children, 15 of whom are girls, have been released from armed groups following on-going discussions between UNICEF and the CAR government.

Agencies Should Send Aid Where Most Needed

Opposition Areas Lack Food, Medical Assistance

(New York, June 12, 2013) – Insufficient levels of humanitarian assistance are reaching opposition-controlled areas in northern Syria, despite their proximity to the Turkish border and dire medical, food, and other humanitarian needs, Human Rights Watch said today. Human Rights Watch visited Raqqa governorate in April 2013, and Aleppo, Idlib, and Latakia governorates between December 2012 and April 2013.

Yemen: Key Humanitarian needs (May 2013)

Democratic Republic of Congo: Humanitarian situation (January 2012 - April 2013)

Since 2012 the DRC has witnessed a constant increase in the number of internally displaced people, up from 1.7 million in December 2011 to more than 2.6 million in April 2013. The east of the country has remained very unstable due to the presence of various armed groups and militias.
