En Junio del 2009 lanzábamos desde Oxfam a nivel internacional la campaña CRECE con el objetivo de garantizar la justicia alimentaria en un mundo de recursos limitados y conseguir que todas las personas del planeta tengan comida suficiente.En esta acción global no podía quedarfuera Nicaragua, un país en el que, a pesar de tener los recursos y el marco jurídico adecuado, el 62% de la población se encuentra en situación de pobreza y más de un millón de personas sufren malnutrición.

USAID Water and Development Strategy, 2013-2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 21, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Rajiv Shah will join Senator Richard Durbin, Congressman Earl Blumenauer and Congressman Ted Poe to release the U.S. Government’s first Water and Development strategy.

In the wake of the food crises of the early 1970s and the resulting World Food Conference of 1974, a group of innovators realized that food security depends not only on crop production but also on the policies that affect an entire food system, from farm to table. The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) was founded in 1975, the same year as the signing of the Treaty of Lagos, which formally created the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

A report calls for a new development contract between citizens and the Malian authorities so that the latter can be held accountable for the policies they implement.

The Global Overview collates information from a range of sources and displays it in a manner that allows for quick comparison of different humanitarian crises.

This food security monitoring publication, which is jointly published by the Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) and WFP, systematically tracks trends in the production, consumption and prices of key food commodities and their impact on the food security situation of the most vulnerable households in urban and rural areas across Egypt. It monitors and identifies emerging local and global trends that can affect food security in Egypt.

• Despite a good 2012/2013 crop year, local prices in Niger have not recovered from the 2011/2012 Sahel food crisis. The price of millet, the main staple, is above last year’s crisis levels and is expected to further increase in the coming months, during the lean season.

• Most millet markets, particularly those in the main producing areas are on alert; above expected seasonal levels since the beginning of the 2012 harvest.

This market assessment is to a large extent based on secondary data analysis. This includes the analysis of food price and consumer price index data from the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, commodity prices from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the APK-Inform Agency and food prices of the WFP Food Price Data Store, analysis of food balance sheets and of various reports and publications on food markets and the Kyrgyz economy.
