La région de Kayes est confrontée à des défis humanitaires notamment l'insécurité alimentaire avec plus de 333 000 personnes affectées, la malnutrition qui touche plus de 38 000 enfants et des problèmes d'accès à l'eau. La région est également confrontée à des inondations, des épidémies comme la rougeole, la méningite et des cas de fièvre jaune.

La population du Burundi est de plus en plus affectée par l’impact de la situation socio-économique et la détérioration des conditions de vie. Les besoins humanitaires sont de plus en plus visibles : la communauté humanitaire au Burundi estime que le nombre de personnes ayant besoin d’assistance humanitaire immédiate, y compris l’accès urgent aux services essentiels de base et à des moyens de subsistance, a presque triplé entre février et octobre 2016, passant de 1,1 million à environ 3 millions de personnes.

  • Although the prices of most commodities decreased in week 4 of December 2016, prices remained higher compared with the previous month. Month-on-month prices remained higher within the ranges of 8 – 61%. Food commodity prices were 16 – 56% higher than the previous three months. The prices were 196 – 347 % and 207 – 362 % compared to last year and the past four year average respectively.

Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) is concerned that even as untoward behaviour is condemned with every by-election that has been conducted since 2013 it seems no one is moved and they continue to perpetrate violence with impunity. The situation in Bikita West is cause for concern as the rights of the electorate are being flagrantly violated. The constituency has reported threat to life, physical violence, partisan food distribution, vote buying, deployment of soldiers, unwarranted voter assistance and intimidation by traditional leaders.

Crisis overview

Three border posts along the Myanmar–Bangladesh border were attacked on 9 October by Harakah al-Yaqin, a resurgent group in Rakhine state which has supposed links to the Rohingya. In response, the Myanmar Army has deployed more troops into the northern Rakhine area, mainly in Maungdaw, and has conducted a security operation. At least 130 people have since been killed in raids and skirmishes. A state of emergency has been declared.
