Largest ever UK disaster response for Syria crisis

Germany Contributes €15 Million To WFP Food Assistance For Syrian Refugees

GAZIANTEP – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has received a generous contribution of €15 million (US$20 million) from the Government of Germany that will help provide critical food assistance to tens of thousands of Syrian refugees who fled the fighting in Syria. The latest contribution brings total German support to WFP’s Syria emergency operations to close to €25 million (US$33 million).

Zaatari Governance Plan, June 2013

Overview

Since January 2013, Jordan has witnessed a dramatic increase in the numbers of Syrian refugees crossing its border. Some 200,000 have crossed this year alone. As of June 2013, there are around 500,000 Syrians registered or awaiting registration with UNHCR in Jordan.

Refugees are transported from the border to Zaatari refugee camp by Jordanian Armed Forces and IOM on a 24/7 basis. In Zaatari they are registered and assisted by the Government of Jordan (GoJ), UN agencies and NGOs.
