David Cameron announces £175 million in humanitarian aid for the Syrian crisis.

Prime Minister David Cameron today set out the largest single funding commitment ever made by the UK in response to a humanitarian disaster, as he announced a £175 million emergency package for the Syrian crisis.

But the Prime Minister warned that the international community as a whole must now follow this lead. He called for:

GAZIANTEP – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has received a generous contribution of €15 million (US$20 million) from the Government of Germany that will help provide critical food assistance to tens of thousands of Syrian refugees who fled the fighting in Syria. The latest contribution brings total German support to WFP’s Syria emergency operations to close to €25 million (US$33 million).

NAIROBI - The Government of Japan has contributed US $15 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to provide food assistance to people in the arid and semi-arid areas of Kenya. The contribution will also assist refugees in the Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camp in the north of the country

• 40,540 Severe Acute Malnutrition new admissions have been registered as of April, representing 32.2% of the 127,000 admissions expected in 2013

Through this initiative, it expected that farmers’ organizations will have improved access to reliable and sustainable markets which could ultimately help them to increase their productivity and income.

Key lifesaving clusters such as food security, health, nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) have received 20 per cent or less of their requirements.
