Improving the Quality, Efficiency and Access to Basic Education in Djibouti

In 1999, the Government of Djibouti began working with the World Bank to undertake a review of the country’s education system with the objective of addressing its inefficiencies and achieving universal primary enrollment by 2010. The second project phase was funded through the International Development Agency in 2005, and by 2011, had helped expand school access to more than 7,000 children, by adding and equipping 102 classrooms, and helped to improve the quality of the curriculum with in-service training to 95 percent of teachers and all school directors.

OFID Governing Board approves new loans and grants to boost socio-economic development

Vienna, Austria, March 20, 2013. The Governing Board of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), meeting in its 142nd Session, has approved 16 loans and grants totaling over US$166 million to boost socio-economic development in over 25 partner countries. The majority of the funding will co-finance projects aimed at combating energy poverty, followed by loans to help bolster the transportation and water supply and sanitation sectors.

A primera vista, Fatima aparentaba tener unos 4 o 5 meses. Pero, en realidad, acababa de cumplir su primer año de vida. Estaba entre los 126.000 niños con desnutrición aguda grave tratados en uno de los 425 centros nutricionales establecidos por el Ministerio de Salud de Chad en 2012 como parte de la expansión de la atención en todo el Sahel. Se llegó a cientos de miles de niños con la atención necesaria para salvar sus vidas. Tristemente, no se pudo llegar a otros muchos.

OFID Governing Board approves new loans and grants to boost socio-economic development

Vienna, Austria, December 12, 2012. The Governing Board of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), meeting in its 141st Session, has approved 22 loans and grants totaling nearly US$300 million to boost socio-economic development in 23 partner countries. The bulk of the public sector loans will co-finance projects aimed at enhancing the transportation and energy sectors of the recipient countries, as well as the agriculture, education and health sectors.
