PREFACIO

De acuerdo a la información de los desastres en el último quinquenio en nuestra región, podemos determinar que uno de los grupos más vulnerables es la población escolar, no solo por el impacto psicológico que producen los desastres sino además por la pérdida de las instalaciones escolares, espacios de recreación, programas de alimentación, salud y otros que se desarrollan en la escuela.

Ce guide a été développé en novembre 2012 par l’équipe Eau-Hygiène-Assainissement (WASH) de l’UNICEF-Mali. Il est destiné aux ONG partenaires de l’UNICEF intervenant dans la cadre des programmes en cours d’approvisionnement en eau, d’assainissement et d’hygiène en milieu scolaire : le Programme d’Appui Dano-Suédois au PROSEA (PADS) et le programme Dubai Cares (DC).

Cities push for resilience as global disaster losses hit $500 billion

BONN, 14 May 2012 - Addressing city leaders at the 2012 Resilient Cities Congress, the UN's top disaster risk reduction official Margareta Wahlström today launched a new phase of the Making Cities Resilient campaign which now includes 1,020 cities around the globe.

The action comes as the UN prepares for the largest-ever summit on sustainable development in Rio de Janeiro next month.

Ten editions and still going strong. The 2012 version of AREU’s flagship “A to Z Guide” is now available. Aiming to enhance understanding of the actors, structures and government processes related to aid and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan, the new edition offers:

• A comprehensive glossary of assistance terms, including new entries on Afghanistan’s water resources, mineral wealth and the Transition process

• An overview of Afghanistan’s system of government

• Key primary documents along with country and city maps

Executive Summary

1) Ending hunger and malnutrition is an essential part of sustainable development. It is a goal that can be achieved. To do so, policies and investments for food and nutrition security should have the following characteristics:

a. Encouraging the production of more food while - at the same time - protecting natural resources and supporting inclusive rural development;

b. Reducing waste and losses along the food value chain from producer to consumer;

Disasters have a devastating impact on communities including physical harm, loss of life and wide-reaching psychosocial harm. Disasters have resulted in the damage or destruction of school facilities, the prolonged disruption of education, limited access to schooling and decreased education quality.

Introduction

The present study is in response to commitments made during the second session of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in June 2009. The purpose of those commitments was to assess the level of disaster resilience in all schools in disaster-prone countries by 2011 and have all related government‘s agencies develop a national plan for school safety by 2015.

Natural disasters and conflict have devastating impacts on the economic and social development of countries. There are social, political and economic imperatives to adopt strategies that reduce risks and create a culture of peace and resilience.
